The.Brief

Why it exists

Hockey fans argue about lineups all winter with nothing to settle it. Dynasty 168 turns the argument into a number: build a roster, run the season, see where it lands against everyone else chasing the record.

It was also a deliberate exercise. A draft interface and a season simulation put more pressure on state handling and data modelling in one afternoon than most client dashboards do in a month.

Games are the honest stress test. Nobody forgives a slow interface when they are playing.
What.We.Built

The pieces

01

Player by player draft

Pick your way through a full roster with the constraints of a real lineup, not a fantasy list.

02

Season simulation

The 82 game schedule is run out from the roster you assembled, producing a point total you can defend or blame.

03

The record chase

A single number to beat, which turns a one off session into a rematch.

04

Built for phones

Most of it is played on a couch with one hand, so the interface is designed for that first.

How it holds up

JavaScriptPublic league dataClient side simulation

The project sits on a structured player dataset assembled from public league sources, which is where most of the real work lives. Ratings have to be consistent across eras or the simulation produces nonsense that fans spot instantly.

The simulation itself runs client side so a season resolves without a round trip, which keeps the loop fast enough to make people play again.

Why.This.Matters

The same engine runs your back office.

Access rules, live data, billing, bilingual interfaces, systems people use every day without thinking about them. What changes from one project to the next is the subject, not the level of the build.
